Pioneer Spirit

The Pioneer Spirit Program at XCL American Academy

In the words of the ancient Greek philosopher Heraclitus, “Good character is not formed in a week or a month. It is created little by little, day by day. Protracted and patient effort is needed to develop good character”.

The XCL American Academy Pioneer Spirit Program is designed to help our students forge their character and become pioneers of tomorrow. We believe that participation in this character development program during the formative years of a young mind has the power to carefully influence a child’s learning trajectory for the rest of the child’s life.

The Pioneer Spirit Program is based on the Second Step family of social-emotional development programs that provide a holistic, coordinated, and community-wide approach to build stronger communities to support students’ development of crucial life skills to succeed at school and in their lives. Students can maximize their learning when they are in a school culture and climate conducive to building success.

Teachers are trained with the necessary tools to be mentors in guiding our student’s character development, as we work towards building a school environment which is safe, inclusive, caring, and encouraging.

Second Step program is aligned with other well-regarded frameworks, standards, and interventions such as CASEL, MTSS, RTI, PBIS, and Common Core. It is used by thousands of schools around the world, benefiting more than 16 million children each year.
